The Simpsons is perhaps the longest running animated show in television history. First debuting on television in 1989, The Simpsons has been on air for nearly 30 years. That said, the show and the characters with the show have evolved drastically over the years. We’ve seen side characters with zero dialogue bloom into beloved essential fixtures of the show. We’re going to show you character by character just how drastic some of these changes were.
Bart Simpson Then
When The Simpsons first came on air in 1989, Bart Simpson was the star of the show. Rebellious but ultimately good at heart, he was the modern day Huckleberry Finn. With all of his cool catch phrases like, “Eat my shorts.”, Don’t have a cow, man.” and “Ay, caramba.”, Bart was who everyone wanted to be. The world was Bart Simpson crazy in the early 1990’s. Out of The Simpson’s array of characters, Bart Simpson merchandise sold the most. He even had a song out called, Do The Bartman that featured Michael Jackson on backing vocals. The song was so popular it got a nomination at the 1991 MTV Video Music Awards.
