Veronica Roth is one of the most popular YA writers out right now. She is best known for her Divergent series. It’s a favorite amongst year readers. Roth started writer Divergent when she was still in college. Little do most people know though, Roth wrote, published and sold the rights to that book before she graduated in 2011. As of now the whole trilogy series is completed and she is just twenty six years old.

S.E. Hinton
Most know S.E. Hinton as the woman who penned The Outsiders, an essential coming to age novel. It is a classic that has touched the lives of many and was even made into a motion picture. Shockingly, Hinton wrote the novel when she was a high school senior. Given the context of the book and the style, it is a fact that is absolutely shocking. It’s a fact that makes college publication look way less impressive.

Bret Easton Ellis broke ground with his novel Less Than Zero. Seeing as it was a book about a college student’s drug filled winter break, Ellis probably didn’t have to use too much of his imagination to write the book. At the time when it was published, he himself was a college student.

Zadie Smith wrote the classic novel White Teeth. It really turned a lot of heads when it hit the shelves and even began a subject of study in college campuses around the world. Oddly enough, the book was written and published when Zadie was still in Cambridge herself.  Anyone who hasn’t read it, should pick up and give it a read. It follows two englishmen in a hustling and bustling London.

Joyce Maynard
Joyce Maynard wrote the relatable article, An 18-Year-Old Looks Back On Life. She wasn’t much older then eighteen when she wrote it and when it was published it made her name shine amongst the many. It attracted legendary writer J.D. Salinger and they began a romantic affair. She published her first nonfiction book two years later at the age of twenty. It is called Looking Back: A Chronicle of Growing Up Old in the Sixties.
